Pinot3 White: a New Zealand white wine made from three Pinots
Pinot3 White was inspired after reading Wine Grapes by Jancis Robinson et al., which explains that Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are all mutations of the same grape variety: Pinot.
No other producer seemed to be making a blend of these three Pinot varieties, so we thought we’d give it a shot.
The result is a small-batch New Zealand white wine made from Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. It is immediately enjoyable, interesting and affable — the kind of wine that would feel equally at home at the local boozer or amongst the Bloomsbury Set.
We hope you enjoy it.
What does Pinot3 White taste like?
Pinot3 White is delightfully fruited and elegantly fragrant, with ripe peach, green rockmelon, lemon peel and floral notes. The palate is beautifully weighted, with supple texture, fine acidity and a smooth, succulent finish.
Reviews
5 Stars – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Delightfully fruited and elegantly fragrant, showing ripe peach, green rockmelon, lemon peel and floral aromas, leading to a beautifully weighted palate offering supple texture and fine acidity. Well rounded and smooth with a lengthy succulent finish. A blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris & Pinot Noir. At its best: now to 2026.
4 Stars – Michael Cooper
The 2022 vintage is based principally on Pinot Blanc, grown in Central Otago, blended with small amounts of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, hence the name Pinot3. Handled in stainless steel tanks and old oak casks, it is full-bodied and vibrantly fruity, with generous, peachy, spicy flavours, fresh and dry. Best drinking mid-2023+.
Food match
