Pinot3 Pink: a New Zealand pink wine made from three Pinots
Pinot3 Pink was inspired after reading Wine Grapes by Jancis Robinson et al., which indicates that Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are just mutants of the same grape variety: Pinot.
No other producer seemed to be making a blend of these three Pinot varieties, so we thought we’d give it a shot.
The result is a small-batch New Zealand pink wine made from Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. It is immediately enjoyable, interesting and affable — the kind of wine that would feel equally at home at the local boozer or amongst the Bloomsbury Set.
We hope you enjoy it.
What does Pinot3 Pink taste like?
Pinot3 Pink is pale, fresh and lively, with apricot, lemon peel, strawberry, peach, watermelon and subtle spice characters. The palate is juicy and silky, with refreshing acidity and a slightly spicy, dry finish.
Reviews
4.5 Stars – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
It's elegantly aromatic on the nose showing apricot, lemon peel, strawberry and subtle spice aromas. The palate delivers juicy fruit intensity with silky texture and refreshing acidity, making it immediately appealing and delightfully drinkable. Pinot Gris 85% with Pinot Blanc 12% and Pinot Noir 3%. At its best: now to 2025.
4 Stars – Michael Cooper
The 2022 vintage is a blend of Pinot Gris, mostly, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Pale pink, it is a very fresh and lively, medium-bodied wine, with strong peach and watermelon flavours, and a slightly spicy, dry finish.
Food match
Pinot3 Pink is a versatile pink wine for seafood, salmon, roast chicken, pork, charcuterie, summer salads, mildly spicy dishes, soft cheeses and sunny afternoon drinking.
